You're It....

Thanks to DC Rainmaker, I get to tell you 7 wonderful things about me! And you have to read them!

1. I can touch my tongue to my nose and roll it. I can get it almost all the way up the front of my nose. Neat huh? When I was in elementary school, people would dare me to touch my nostril with it. Of course, I did. Every time.

2. I eat cereal most days 3 times a day (three square meals you know) I never get sick of it. I've been eating it for years.

3. Whenever my nose runs, it's almost always the right nostril snot comes out of. Never the left. So, my right nostril is usually chapped. Not the left. I think it has something to do with my brother smacking me with a bat when I was younger....okay, sorry Garrett, I know you didn't do it on purpose but I like to lay the guilt trip you know.

4. I am double jointed in my thumbs and give a new look to hitchhiking. Needless to say, if I ever found the need for a ride, I'm pretty sure someone would pick me up because of my thumbs alone. I'm also double jointed in my hips and can pop them in and out. Gross huh.

5. In first grade, a kid behind me in the lunch line spilled his tomato soup on my pants. It was awful. I looked like I peed my pants. Ever since then, I don't think I've ever eaten it.

6. I threw up once in elementary school after eating cheese popcorn. I now can't stand the taste or smell of it.

7. One summer, my brothers and I were talking about Rocky and all decided to drink eggs. It was very gross.

Here were the rules are as follows (I'm required to post them):

# Link to the person who tagged you
# Post the rules on your blog.
# Share seven random and/or weird facts about yourself on your blog.
# Tag seven random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.
# Leave a comment on their blogs so that they know they have been tagged.

I can't name seven blogs right now as most of the bloggers I read have already been tagged. But, I am tagging Amy, Dori, Danielle and Sunshine!
If you read this, consider yourself tagged. HA!

Patchwork

Thanks guys for the notes about the trainer. I checked the tire, it was very low. Pumped it up and I am now back in business sweating...but with a lot less noise. I started training today for the Fargo Half using Hal Higdon's program. I am actually going to try to PR at this race. Or, I was. I'm kind of doing some "patchwork" now trying to make up for the last few months of being lazy! Needless to say, I have a lot of work ahead of me!
This weekend I worked at my part-time job at Lifetime Fitness and saw the famous Steve Stenzel running like a madman on the treadmill during the indoor triathlon. I wanted to say hi, but he was in the middle of his run and I thought that would be just plain rude. Little did I know, he needed a shoe! Steve, I probably could have given you one...I have big feet! But, it felt really weird watching a triathlon and not participating. I didn't like it. If anything, it made me inspired to get my butt moving again! I also ran into a classmate from high school. I hadn't seen her since we graduated. She was working at the triathlon. We talked for a while and I learned she has done about five marathons, numerous triathlons and Ironman Madison. I was shocked. Just goes to show how much people change. She was not real active in high school so it was amazing to hear all this. It also has me thinking a little bit. Maybe I am not setting the bar high enough for myself? Maybe I can do more than one marathon? Maybe. Maybe I need to actually start training for triathlons and putting in more time than my usual three swims before? Maybe? Either way, it was hard to watch the tri but a good thing for me to see and experience. Maybe I'll get moving now. Just maybe.

Training for the Dumb

Okay. I got a bike trainer as many of you kn ow for my birthday. I luuuuvv it. Even if it is crammed in the corner of my living room right now. Problem is, the back tire squeaks like a mother and drives me insane. Anyone know how to fix this or what the problem is?

A Bunch of Stuff

I know it has been just eating all of you up inside. You're all wondering how my toe is doing, aren't you? Admit it. You are. Well, I thought I'd update you. So, here is a picture:

I know, not the best picture. Something weird is going on with my camera. Could be that it's almost six years old? Naaahhh. Anyway, the toe is much better. My boyfriend and I actually took a torch to it one night. No joke. Okay, it's not as bad as it sounds but we did. I went to the doctor several months back after I could NOT stand the pain anymore. Little did I know that the doctor would be VERY, and I mean VERY dumb. First off, she comes in with black knee high boots and a patent leather skirt. Not a good sign. I couldn't picture her touching blood or talking about it for that matter. She proceeded to tell me how she was out way to late last night and was just so tired. I thought what the hell? Am I in some back alley clinic here or what?! After waiting over an hour, and then waiting another half hour while she asked someone who knew what they were doing, she came back in and told me she didn't feel comfortable putting a hole in my nail. What? Seriously? Come on lady, get real, this isn't surgery. My foot is throbbing and I clearly have a huge pile of blood built up underneath it and you won't help? After I gave her my look of death, she then said, well what do you think should be done? I then responded with, you should put a hole in it to relieve the pressure. Again, she responded with the "I don't feel comfortable doing that." Umm yeah. Whatever lady. I don't feel comfortable paying your bill right now either but you don't see me whining now do ya?! Anyway, long story short, I went home and my boyfriend sterilized a paperclip, we took a torch to the clip and wah-lah, one hole in the toe and immediate relief. It is now growing out a little. We also discovered that the nail had split (vertically) part of the way down. Huh. Makes me wonder what was going on inside that shoe during Chicago?!
As I mentioned in a few prior posts, I have been working out. Just not doing what I should be doing. I have been going to the gym to occasionally lift and to use the elliptical. BUT, that's it. I can't get myself to do anything else. I don't know what is going on. I have decided that it could be that I just get bored. I realized this yesterday when I was in the pool (first time for numerous weeks aside from Tri U Mah). I thought for sure I had been swimming for about 20 minutes. I looked at the clock, nope. Just five. FIVE? What? God. This stinks. I think I just get bored if I am not racing someone or not training with someone? Isn't that dumb? I haven't yet figured out how to get over that problem but I really need to figure something out as my pants are getting tighter by the minute. And, I am not kidding on that one. No running = tight pants. That = not good.
We've also been busy doing home improvement projects. SO FUN! I'm kidding. These aren't the fun kind. These are the "god why am I owning a home?" kind of projects. My water softener went out a few weeks back. That was interesting. Instead of just quitting, all the little beads inside the softener that help soften the water broke out into the pipes. Yep. Trust me, it was as fun as this sounds. So, we woke up one day without water pressure. Very interesting. Took a while to figure out it was the softener and long story short, we installed a new one last weekend. That = fun times kids.
However, I did get to have some fun last weekend. I participated in the Tri U Mah at the U of M. As many of you recall, it was sooooooo cold last weekend. But, this is such a great event, I highly recommend it to everyone. This was my second year doing it. I didn't get to do it last year as I was expecting to be training for the marathon. A bunch of my friends I haven't seen for a long time were also doing the event. Amy, Marcia, my former marathon coach, Gary and my co-worker Heather all participated as well as Marc, one of my former teammates from the good old Ragnar Relay. We had a great time. Although, I did feel like I was going to die at times, I actually did better than I did two years ago when I was in much better shape and had done more training. How that works, I don't know. It's really great though, you swim a half hour, run a half hour and then bike a half hour. Whoever covers the most distance in that time, wins. Great concept for us up here in the frozen land.

Here is a link to one of my favorite pictures from the weekend...seriously. What is with my mouth? I must have been gasping for air.

And this one? Again, mouth, wide open!

Oh and see those pretty pink earbuds I have in on the bike pictures. Yeah, I couldn't hear the final countdown so I took them out near the end only to have them get wrapped around the pedal. Lovely! Again, one of the dangers of ipods guys. One of the dangers. (I'm being sarcastic if you can't tell). Have a good one!

If I was smart enough, I'd post the actual video here, but I don't know how to do that yet...sorry. BUT, GET INVOLVED! Now. Go. Right. Now.
